The University of Kentucky is strengthening how we meet the needs of communities across the Commonwealth.

Beyond Blue enables this work. Established in 2013, it is an affiliated, not-for-profit organization that has grown alongside the university. It provides a structure for partnership and expansion and remains aligned with, and governed by, the UK Board of Trustees.

By bringing together our people, systems and expertise, Beyond Blue connects efforts like Project Blue-Connect and Integrate Blue, unifying systems and aligning teams to help us do more and be more for the people we serve.

Built for long-term impact, Beyond Blue continues to grow to meet the evolving needs of the organization and advance collaboration across the enterprise.

General Information

What is Beyond Blue?

Beyond Blue is an affiliated organization connected to the University of Kentucky that supports collaboration, growth and expanded services across the University of Kentucky and UK HealthCare. It remains aligned with, and governed by, the UK Board of Trustees.

Why does Beyond Blue matter?

Beyond Blue has already helped connect hospitals like UK St. Claire and UK King’s Daughters with UK HealthCare, helping expand access to advanced medicine, specialty expertise and additional services closer to home for the communities they serve.

As the organization continues to grow, Beyond Blue also provides a structure that supports new opportunities for collaboration, innovation and expansion across health care, athletics and other areas that support the broader mission of the University of Kentucky.

Why are these changes happening now?

Health care, higher education and organizational operations are becoming increasingly connected and complex. These efforts help align systems, teams and services to support long-term growth, improve coordination and expand services across Kentucky.

What is the difference between Beyond Blue, Integrate Blue and Project Blue-Connect?

These initiatives support areas of growth and transformation across the University of Kentucky and UK HealthCare.

  • Beyond Blue provides an organizational structure that supports collaboration, growth and expanded services while remaining governed by the UK Board of Trustees.
  • Integrate Blue focuses on aligning operational support areas like HR, IT, Finance and other shared support functions, and how teams work together across the university and health system.
  • Project Blue-Connect focuses on connecting systems and technology across UK HealthCare, UK King’s Daughters and UK St. Claire, including platforms like Workday, UKG, Epic and MyChart.

While separate, these efforts connect to support many of the same goals related to organizational growth, coordination and improving access to health care across Kentucky.

Are employees within Beyond Blue and Champions Blue still connected to the University of Kentucky?

Yes. UK HealthCare, UK St. Claire, UK King’s Daughters and employees transitioning to Beyond Blue or Champions Blue all continue operating in alignment with the mission of the University of Kentucky. These organizations remain connected through shared partnerships, coordination and governance oversight that support patients, employees, students and communities across Kentucky.

What is changing and what is not changing?

Some systems, organizational structures and ways of working are evolving to improve coordination and support long-term growth across the organization.

What is not changing is the mission of the University of Kentucky and UK HealthCare, the commitment to serving communities across Kentucky and the focus on patient care, education, research and service. Compensation and benefits for employees transitioning to Beyond Blue or Champions Blue will also remain unchanged.

Will I lose my job as a result of Beyond Blue?

No. Employees transitioning to Beyond Blue or Champions Blue will continue in their current or aligned roles.

Will my compensation or benefits change?

No. Employees moving to Beyond Blue or Champions Blue will retain their current compensation and benefits as part of this transition.

Is this only happening at the University of Kentucky?

No. Many universities and health systems across the country are evolving how they align systems, operations and support services to better serve employees, patients and communities.

Is all change occurring at the University of Kentucky connected to Beyond Blue, Integrate Blue or Project Blue-Connect?

No. While Beyond Blue, Integrate Blue and Project Blue-Connect are important initiatives, not every organizational change or update across the university and health system is connected to these efforts.

These initiatives focus on specific areas related to shared support functions, organizational coordination and technology systems.

Who can employees contact regarding questions?

Employees should continue working with their leader or HR representative for transition-related questions. Employees can also contact the HR Contact Center at HR4U@uky.edu for personnel-related questions. Additional updates, resources and training information will continue to be shared throughout the transition process.
